Born from experience

Hi my name is Katelyn!

Australian Birth Guides was born from my passion for supporting parents through one of life’s most powerful and transformative transitions, birth. As a practicing Midwife and Nurse at one of Melbourne’s largest tertiary hospitals, I’ve had the privilege of caring for families through every stage of pregnancy, labour and the early postnatal period.

Over the years, I’ve witnessed the incredible range of birthing experiences - the unpredictable, the challenging and the profoundly beautiful. These moments have taught me that while birth rarely follows a set plan, feeling informed and supported can make all the difference.

I created Australian Birth Guides to help parents move away from the idea of a rigid birth plan and instead embrace flexible, personalised birthing preferences. My goal is to empower parents with evidence-based education and the tools to communicate confidently with their care providers. I understand that clinic appointments can sometimes feel rushed and leave little time to explore every question or concern. That’s why each guide is thoughtfully designed to encourage deeper reflection, spark meaningful conversations and help parents approach birth with calm confidence and clarity, no matter how their journey unfolds.

This project was developed with my sister Lauren, a practicing physiotherapist - we’re just getting started. Watch this space for what’s coming next!
